Fred Trost was a Michigan outdoors television personality and host of Michigan Outdoors, a fishing and hunting program, through which he ran an annual fishing awards program — originally sponsored by Stroh's Beer and later by Moosehead Beer — built on top of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Master Angler program, which tracked trophy catches by weight through public fishing license records.
Qualifying anglers were invited to an annual Fishing Awards Banquet where catches were recognized and winners were interviewed for potential TV segments. The standout catch of 1990 was a 33-pound, 7-ounce king salmon landed on Little Traverse Bay by Fred Sterns of Petoskey, which Trost introduced at the banquet as the largest salmon of the year for the state.

To care for your hat, spot-clean gently with cool water and a mild soap (avoid soaking the foam front or putting it in the washing machine). Reshape and air-dry. Store it brim-up to help it keep its structure.
If the foam gets dented or bends, a handheld steamer works great to relax it back into shape — just steam lightly and let it cool.
