Shaffer Rock Bit Supply Black Trucker
Product Details
Vintage Shaffer Rock Bit Supply patch handstitched onto a black OTTO-brand foam trucker hat.
Richard "Dick" Shaffer filed the paperwork in August 1964 to open Shaffer's Rock Bit Supply in Somerset, Pennsylvania. Dick was an Army veteran, a Mason, a founding member of the Somerset County Sheriff's Posse. Rock bits are the drill heads used in mining and excavation — Somerset County was coal country, so the business made sense. He ran it for years out of the same area he was born and raised in. Last record was in 2000 — or at least that's when it stopped making the papers.
One made. When it's gone, it's gone.
Care & Maintenance
To care for your hat, spot-clean gently with cool water and a mild soap (avoid soaking the foam front or putting it in the washing machine). Reshape and air-dry. Store it brim-up to help it keep its structure.
If the foam gets dented or bends, a handheld steamer works great to relax it back into shape — just steam lightly and let it cool.
