Product Details

1982 L.A.W National Century patch handstitched onto a burgundy OTTO-brand foam trucker hat.

The League of American Wheelmen was founded in 1880, when cyclists ("wheelmen") faced rutted dirt roads and hostility from horse-and-wagon traffic. Over 100,000 members joined to advocate for paved roads, and their efforts helped lay the groundwork for the U.S. national highway system. The League later modernized its name to the League of American Bicyclists, but it's the same organization, still advocating for cyclists over 140 years later.

September was National Century Month, when members completed 100-mile rides to earn a coveted century patch.

One made. When it's gone, it's gone.

Care & Maintenance

To care for your hat, spot-clean gently with cool water and a mild soap (avoid soaking the foam front or putting it in the washing machine). Reshape and air-dry. Store it brim-up to help it keep its structure.

If the foam gets dented or bends, a handheld steamer works great to relax it back into shape — just steam lightly and let it cool.

The Fine Print

Every Paper Thief hat is one of a kind. Patches are sourced from thrift stores, estate sales, flea markets, etc. — they come with age, wear, and history. Minor fading, small imperfections, and signs of life are to be expected and are represented in the product photo(s).
